Course Description:

Part 1 - Treatment of Disease

Dr. Alsabbagh will present a clinically focused overview of surgical and regenerative strategies for managing periodontal disease. The presentation will cover the role of osseous surgery in reshaping bony defects and improving access for debridement, followed by a review of guided tissue regeneration and guided bone regeneration as evidence-based approaches for rebuilding lost periodontal and alveolar structures. Attendees will gain a clear understanding of when these procedures are indicated in everyday practice and how they can enhance long-term periodontal stability for their patients.

Part 2 - Soft Tissue Considerations

Dr. Boeriu will explore the integrated periodontal-restorative management of gingival recession defects (GRDs) associated with non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs). Participants will learn how to classify recession-NCCL cases using the Cairo, Pini-Prato, and Cortellini & Bissada frameworks to guide diagnosis and treatment. Clinical protocols will cover when and how to restore NCCLs, the impact of restoration timing and margin placement on root coverage outcomes, and the selection of restorative materials (composite vs. glass ionomer). The lecture emphasizes the use of connective tissue grafts (CTG) or acellular dermal matrices (ADM) to prevent flap collapse and optimize esthetics. Evidence-based guidelines and case examples illustrate the decision-making process from diagnosis to flap design and restorative execution. Ideal for clinicians seeking predictable outcomes in complex esthetic cases, this session combines surgical and restorative disciplines into a unified, patient-centered approach.

Part 3 – Implants

Dr. Roy will explore the various prosthetically driven treatments available with dental implants ranging from a single tooth to a full arch along with the planning involved. We will discuss indications for immediate implant placement along with provisionalization. There will be an overview of site preparation including different techniques of sinus augmentation, rationale for socket preservation and guided bone regeneration.

Course Objectives - Participants Will:

  • Identify appropriate clinical indications for osseous surgery, GTR, and GBR in managing periodontal defects
  • Recognize key materials, membranes, and techniques used to achieve predictable regenerative outcomes
  • Classify and diagnose gingival recession defects
  • Integrate periodontal and restorative protocols
  • Understand the different prosthetic options achievable with dental implants
  • Understand which sites are good candidates for immediate implant placement
  • Understand when sinus augmentation is necessary

Speaker Biographies:

Dr. Rami Alsabbagh, DDS received his undergraduate degree in Medical Science from the University of Western Ontario and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Toronto in Canada. Dr. Alsabbagh then completed his Masters of Science degree and certificate in Periodontology from The Ohio State University. Throughout his training, Dr. Alsabbagh was actively involved in clinical research and has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals. Additionally, he served as a teaching assistant, supervising dental students as they provided periodontal care to patients. Dr. Alsabbagh is well-versed in a full scope of periodontal and implant surgery, providing treatment for periodontal disease, dental implants, hard and soft tissue regeneration, and cosmetic and oral surgeries. In his free time, Dr. Alsabbagh enjoys spending time with his wife and twin daughters, staying active, and drinking lots of coffee.

Dr. Sorin Boeriu, DDS, MSD, PhD is a board-certified periodontist and internationally recognized clinician, researcher, and educator in implant and periodontal surgery. He earned his DDS and MSD in periodontics from Case Western Reserve University and later completed a PhD in medical sciences in Târgu Mureș, Romania. With over two decades of experience, he maintains private practices in Kitchener, Ontario, and Toledo/Maumee, Ohio, focusing on advanced periodontal and implant procedures, including soft- and hard-tissue regeneration, sinus augmentation, immediate implants, and minimally invasive root-coverage techniques. Dr. Boeriu is the author of two textbooks and multiple peer-reviewed publications in soft tissue grafting, implant dentistry, and microsurgical techniques. He is a Fellow of the AAID, ICOI, and Misch Institute and an active member of the AAP, CDA, and ODA. As founder of Boeriu Academy, he provides hands-on CE programs and lectures internationally, promoting evidence-based, patient-centered surgical care.

Dr. Brian Roy, DDS, MS received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from The University of Detroit Mercy. Dr. Roy then completed his Masters of Science degree and certificate in Periodontics from The Ohio State University. Dr. Roy is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He is a past President of the Ohio Academy of Periodontists and on the Board of Directors for the Toledo Dental Society. Dr. Roy is also a member of the Ohio Dental Association and the American Dental Association.
